BBQ Beef Brisket
This brisket is cooked low and slow in a yummy BBQ style sauce in the oven (perfect if you don’t have a slow cooker!). It takes barely any time to prep and once you have, you can set and forget for the afternoon. I love how this cut of meat is super versatile and this recipe is perfect busy families who want to cook once, eat twice or for those occasions when you’re feeding a crowd!
Ingredients:
1.2kg beef brisket
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp smoked paprika
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp cumin
Salt and pepper
BBQ sauce:
1/2 cup BBQ sauce (I use Mingle - available to Woolworths)
3/4 cup beef bone broth
1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
1 tbsp maple syrup
Method:
Step 1:
Preheat your oven to 140 fan forced (or 150 degrees bake).
Pat the brisket dry with a paper towel. Rub all over with olive oil, smoked paprika, garlic powder, cumin and salt and pepper.
Step 2:
Heat a large oven proof pan over a medium heat. Sear the brisket for 2-3 minutes per side until browned. If you have time, you can sear all 4 sides - but don’t worry if you just sear the top and bottom).
In a jug, whisk together the BBQ sauce, bone broth, apple cider vinegar and maple syrup.
Step 3:
Pour the sauce around the brisket in the dish. Cover with a lid and place in the oven for around 4.5-5.5 hours.
In the final 20-30 minutes, remove the lid and cook uncovered (this will crisp up the outside!).
Rest the brisket for around 5-10 minutes, then shred with two forks. It should pull apart beautifully! For the kids, I cut the brisket into smaller strips so it’s easier for them to manage.
To serve:
This is a really versatile cut of meat - you can serve with seasonal vegetables and salads, in burger buns, wraps, tacos, with tortilla chips or even stir through pasta. The options are endless!
